Are you worried about the integrity of your wood fence? It might have something to do with your fence panels. Here are some tips for assembling a brand new fence panel to replace any that might have been damaged or destroyed due the to the weather or soil erosion.
You’ve Got to Plan It
For any home improvement project, planning is essential. It doesn’t matter if you are doing something inside the house or enhancing it’s exterior – it all starts with solid planning. The existing fence panels you already have are most likely wooden boards on a metal frame. Your new fence panels should be the same. Where is the fence located and what do you need it to do? These questions are critical to remember as you plan out how to redesign your fence and build some new panels. Don’t overlook the significance of choosing to paint or stain your wooden fence once you have successfully re-mounted some new panels – doing this will help your fence last much longer.
Prepare the Posts
The next step is to prepare the fence posts. Make sure that every fence post, and the fence as a whole, are standing up straight. To ensure this, you will need to use concrete as a base for your new fence posts. Remember to space out the posts every six feet or so (sometimes more, sometimes less, depending on the terrain of your yard). This part of the process is where a post hole digger will come in handy.
Put Panels On Your Fence
Without a special fencing clip (it’s in the shape of a U), you can’t mount a single fence panel, let alone multiple. Make sure you have this clip before you start putting new panels on your wood fence. This clip needs to be screwed in tightly with nails or screws – that is up to you. Lastly, be sure to repaint the fence, or give it a staining treatment or coat it with a sealant to prevent rotting due to condensation and water damage.
