Simplify Your DIY Fence with Fence Panels

Since fence panels come ready to be installed, you won’t have to deal with the hassle of building a new fence entirely from scratch.

What are you doing with your long Labor Day weekend? Have you been planning to cross off a new DIY fence from your honey-do list? Since fence panels come ready to be installed, you won’t have to deal with the hassle of building a new fence entirely from scratch. If you’re curious which styles of fence panels are right for your project, read on to find out. We’ll also lead you step-by-step on how to assemble the posts and get them installed in your yard.

Styles of Fence Panels

Here are the different kinds of fence panels you could be working with.

  • Trellis: These are boards designed to be in a crisscrossed lattice pattern. Trellis is a tremendous idea for decorative fences, or for encircling your garden. You can also use it as fence topper for a privacy fence if you so choose.
  • Palisade: These panels are spaced. The iconic picket fence is a classic example of a palisade. When you use palisades, you’re more than likely using them to indicate property lines or other boundaries. You could also use them to boost your home’s curb appeal, too. Let more light and air into your yard, which can be important as the weather starts to cool down for the end of summer.
  • Overlap: How are overlap boards different? They overlap each other horizontally, which makes them ideal for increasing the protection provided by privacy fences.
  • Closeboard: These are panels that overlap vertically. These are the sturdiest fence panels, so they’re perfect for keeping your kids and pets safe.

DIY Installation

  1. Make Sure It’s Legal: Get all of your homework done to ensure you even can put up a new fence.
  2. Measure It Out: You’ll need to make careful measurements because with fence panels you have much less room to make mistakes.
  3. Prepare Post Holes: Your post holes should be two or three feet deep. Be sure the circumference of the holes is wider than your posts.
  4. Install Posts: Install your posts, make sure they’re level, and fill in the holes with concrete.
  5. Connect Panels: Nails, screws, and tabs are all possible connectors you can use to make sure the panels stay together.
