So, you read last week’s blog and you got yourself all excited for some stress-free fence installation to get your home or business situated for springtime. Great! We’re excited to get working with you. But preparing for fence installation is more than just saying “fence, please!” — so we put together this list of things to take care of before we get started. Here’s what you need to do and think about if you’re planning for fence installation.
Step 1: Choose Your Fence
Seems pretty obvious, right? There are plenty of posts throughout our blog that detail the great benefits of each type of fence that we offer. Looking for some privacy? Try this one. How about a pool fence? Click over here. Maybe a fence for fido? That’s right here for ya. And then there are always the material-nonspecific benefits like boosted home value, security and curb appeal. Click around our site and you’re sure to find something that tickles your fancy.
Step 2: Do Your Homework
Your new fence will need a place to go, won’t it? It’s a good idea to know where your property lines are, and that might involve a little bit of research with the county or your homeowners association. You should also look into any regulations that might dictate the placement, size, color, or any other detail of your fence. If you happen to know where any underground utility lines are, that’s an awesome bonus. If you don’t know, we have the tools and knowledge to figure it out for you when we get on site.
Step 3: The Prep Work
If there’s anything on your property that might impede preparing for fence installation, it’s time for that to go. If that something is an old, beaten-down fence, check out this blog post for tips on that. If it’s a low-hanging tree or another plant invader, it’s time to break out the gardening tools. Take a walk along your intended fence line and look for any big rocks, tree roots, or hills that might require for some adjustment in your fence installation planning.
Step 4: Make Nice with the Neighbors
This one is more of a nicety than a necessity, but we figured we’d throw it in here anyway. With any construction project, it’s a good idea to warn your neighbors that you’ll have a construction crew coming by. Since fence installation is something that can affect the exterior aesthetics and value of a property, it’s especially nice to chat with your neighbors about it beforehand.
