How to Fill Fence Gaps

fence-gaps

Don’t let fence gaps go unchecked.

Fence gaps can create all sort of pesky problems. They can allow unwanted wildlife to leech into your yard and even provide an escape route for pets, which is an unfortunate safety hazard. Fence gaps can occur as a result of natural shifts in the terrain of your yard, however, a yard is not always to blame. Fence installation mistakes can lead to all sorts of fence issues, including fence gaps. They can also be created by precocious pets attempted to get through them. There are different materials you can do to fill fence gaps and keep both your grounds and beloved pets safe. To learn more about your options, read on.

Make Use of Stones

One option is to fill the fence gap with some type of aesthetically pleasing decorative stone or washed river rock. For the best effect, use stones that are between 1 and 3 inches in diameter. In order to determine how much stone or rock you need, measure the gap. Multiply the length by the height by the width to determine the measurements in cubic feet. Then purchase the amount of material you need to fill that volume. Use a bow or rake to spread the stones evenly after you have dumped them into the space.

Fill A Fence Gap using Hardware Cloth

First measure the width of your fence panel. Then, while wearing work gloves, cut a length of hardware two to three feet high with side cutters to match the width of the fence panel. Insert the cloth about 2 or 3 inches in the ground below the gap after excavating the area. Following this, insert the hardware cloth into a trench and then secure the cloth to your wood fence with heavy duty staples. Use cables in the case of a chain link fence. Then pack dirt around the cloth to hide it.
